I must admit, there are few things I consider myself truly passionate about. One of them is my job. I love, love, love working in the museum field. Careerwise, I feel it's where I was meant to be. And for the record, a sense of humor is required as a museum educator. A healthy sense of irony is also helpful in the non-profit world.
When I was in college & grad school, I was passionate about my education and my boyfriend. Now that I'm older, I'm passionate about my career and the wonderful man I married (different guy).
I'm PICKY about what I'm passionate about - and it sounds like you are too! There's nothing wrong with that.
Anyhoo, I don't think you need to be passionate about a lot of things to be a well-rounded person.
And about your friend contemplating the squirrel crossing his path? He should contemplate on how much FUN the squirrel was having and take a clue. Those little critters usually look like they're having a ball to me!
