I have mixed feelings on this subject.
My IBS is in remission (thank GOD!), and I don't drink anymore. Before my IBS I used to enjoy a Jack or two (sometimes even three). When I came down with IBS, it was hard to give up my beloved drink, but I was desperate to rid myself of my horrendous IBS attacks, so I did anything and everything, sticking strictly to the diet. After awhile on the diet, I slowly added into my diet one Jack -- just ONE -- preceded by a soluble fiber and a soluble fiber with the drink. I found that the booze calmed down my tummy muscles, actually being very soothing. However, two Jacks were a definite no-no; the second one caused big problems.
Then, as my IBS began to diminish, and my attacks became fewer and fewer, I discovered I didn't like the Jack after all. (All the old-timers in here who know me well won't believe this, but it's true.) I didn't like the feeling of being high, opting instead for total control.
Now, whenever we go to a restaurant, I order something much milder -- a screw driver, vodka collins, something that hardly hits me at all -- and I like the tiny little buzz I get instead of the HIGH from the strong Jack.
Here's my suggestion: if you're gonna drink, limit it to one drink, no more, and just sip it. Order a glass of water to drink with it, and be sure to have that bread or roll or crackers beforehand, and maybe even some afterwards. An Equalactin would also help!
