Wow! I am so glad I found this site. For the first time in a long time, I have a sense of hope. This disease has kept me from living a normal life for nearly 10 years. Which brings me to my pet, Pepper, a Border Collie/Aussie Heeler Mix. Pepper was dumped near a park where I lived in Oregon (I'm now in NM). The minute we saw each other, it was instantaneous love and bonding. However, dutifully, I led him around to all the houses and asked anyone if they knew him or had seen him before. I even called the local vet and police in case anyone reported a lost dog. Finally, someone who I took Pepper to see said, "He just got here yesterday. He was dumped." It was obvious that he had also been abused because he cowered at the slightest move. But now after some years together, he doesn't cower anymore. He smiles a big bright smile and his big brown eyes light up, and he is always by my side. I don't know what I would have done without him as I've gone through what I am now calling my healing journey.
