HI Michelle-

I have not had a hysterectomey, but my mom did when I was in 7th grade (ohh...about 1989, she would have been about 46 years old). She had fibroid tumors in her uterus (one about the size of a large grapefruit), her periods were all messed up, so they took all of it in a TAH (total abdominal hyterectomy). Her recovery was tough, (I remember THAT is when I had to learn to do laundry and such as it was considered major surgery and she couldn't do lifting or running up and down the stairs), but it has been easy going after the healing process. She has not had any problems or complications, I believe she is on Premarin for hormones, but besides the one med, she doesn't deal with anything else. She is a completely and totally healthy, active, loving, caring woman (can you tell I simply adore my mom?) and I know that is was a relief for her to have the plumbing removed as she didn't need it anymore and it was causing so many problems.

I work at a hospital and we have a lot of patients just after surgery for hysterectomies (both abdominal and vaginal). They come out of surgery with a cath, and some pain meds, and most are up and moving around, eating clear meals within 12 hours. I think that surgery options today allow for quicker recoveries, and such you are such a health conscious person, and physically fit, that only aids in the speed of the recovery.

I am confident that no matter what comes your way that day, the decisions made will be what are best for you and your long term health. And just think, what a joy to NOT have a period anymore...there is some bliss right there!!!

Take care!
