Yes, yes, yes, yes, and YES!!! I have IBS-C, not ever D. Definitely flares up before my period. Like my colon just goes to sleep.
I am 36, close in age to you. I had emergency room visits the first few bad times -- and passed stools the size of (sorry to gross you out) potatoes. Ugh! I am a teacher, and I would get bad cramps shooting down my legs when I was bad and had to actually sit on a wheelie chair one day so I could move around to help the kids. I am not that bad AT ALL anymore, but now, I do have a kabob skewer in the restroom to break it up so it doesn't clog the pipes. This has happened off and on for 8 years.
When I am "full of it", I feel so awful too. Physically and emotionally. Getting on antidepressants made an immediate change. But, I still battle off and on.
Yes, I know there are places it gets "hung up" in my colon. Nothing has moved down, but I keep eating and thinking, MY GOSH! Where is all this food going?! I am sure you eventually lose your appetite as I do. Food has NO flavor whatsoever. (Familiar?)
One thing that helps me A LOT, that my GI doctor suggested is WATER enemas. I almost always have to use a little one each time I go, but if I get really, really backed up, I use a quart - half gallon so the water can get up there and open that part up.
If you want me to tell you more about any of this (and other things that have helped), just say so, and I will post my e-mail. I DO UNDERSTAND!!!
I am just starting to try Heather's stuff. Hypnosis, peppermint caps, diet, etc. I have tried a gazillion other strategies/drugs, etc. Some of my old techniques DO help. But I want something better -- and am hopeful that by trying these tried and (usually) true strategies, I will find it.
Good luck!
Karen
