Hey Min, That was so funny, I was reading through your post, nodding my head (yes, i can relate, i can relate...) and then I saw my name, and Event Management, and BURST out laughing!!
This is the nature of the beast, isn't it??? I always say, you have to have the stomach for this (har, har), cos everything changes at the last minute, and YES you are at the mercy of a dozen people and their insane expectations!! Doesn't it seem that everybody talks "crazy," and expects you to translate into "sane?"
But I think like a lot of IBS-ers, we are perfectionists, Min, and thereby drawn stress-filled positions which consist of a million tiny, tiny details. My job is all details, and when I think of the over 120+ conferences I've directed in the last 5 years, I think I must be truely insane.
But just remind yourself about how great it'll be when it's all over and you can actually not have to think about it anymore. At least for 3 days afterwards, until the next major project rears its ugly head.
But really, it's going to be OK. And it's cool to dodge phone calls and to tell someone else to back off for the time being. They know you're under pressure.
It's so hard when there's a major time crunch, and everything drops from the sky at the last minute! And I hear you about people in this town, all more important than the last one. Just remember to breathe. Time your breaks. Remember to eat small. And breathing, keep breathing!!!
It'll be alllll overrrr sooooon.
