Sorry to respond a few days later and I haven't read the other responses to your post. I can't read close to a thousand e-mails.
My doctor took me off Effexor due to the nightmares. My were so vivid that I felt like I was losing my mind and getting little sleep didn't help.
Effexor works in the central nervous system, which has a higher rate for causing nightmares. Weaning off a drug you just started isn't that bad - your doctor should wean you off slowly and start you on a new anti-depressant before you completley wean off the drug.
Maybe you are not dealing with depression as much anxiety. If anxiety is more of a problem than other anti-depressants work better. I take paxil and do very well on it. There is a new Paxil call Paxil CR, which is suppose to be easier on the stomach.
