Terrible sleep and an AWFUL tummy day

Okay, so the school year started this week. Traditionally, my problem has been falling asleep. Well, the hypnosis tapes have really helped with that. My new sleep problem is waking up in the middle of the night and being completely unable to fall back asleep. Argh!!! It happened once or twice last week, Monday night, and again last night.

Last night was the worst. I fell asleep at about 10 and woke up at 2. I lay there about an hour, and then I got up and read a magazine for another hour. I was SO FRUSTRATED! I felt tired; I just couldn't fall back asleep. My mind just wouldn't shut up. I wasn't even thinking anything specific; random thoughts just kept passing through. They weren't racing chaotically or anything; they were just constantly there. At 4 I finally decided to listen to the hypnotherapy session again, and I fell asleep shortly after that had ended.

These sleep problems get me so down. I start thinking, "WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME???" I have been teaching for five years; why am I having more sleep problems than ever? Why is every other teacher able to get a full night's sleep? It's obviously stress-related, as I slept well almost all summer; but IT'S NOT LIKE I FEEL SUPER-STRESSED OUT right now! I mean, I know some beginning-of-year stress is to be expected, but I feel on top of things (not buried in work or something). I just don't get it, and it's soooooo frustrating and demoralizing.

So, with me bad sleep equals D. I had D before I left for work and D when I got there, complete with the lovely peppermint poos. I also had some of the worst abdominal pain I've ever had with my IBS. I took an immodium, and that stopped the D, but I also had nausea ala Casey and could barely choke down any food before about 2 this afternoon.

I guess I just needed to vent. If anyone has advice on sleeping through the night (other than no liquids two hours before bed), I'd love to hear it. I'll be taking some Benadryl tonight for a little "good sleep" insurance.

Thanks, everyone.
