Like you, I have struggled with following Heather's eating guidelines, because of the weight gain issue. However, eating this way is the only thing that's kept my IBS under control. After many of my relatives and friends raved about WW, I joined Weight Watchers (the online version) about a month and a half ago.
I have a few comments about WW for people with IBS. First and foremost, it can be done! I've lost almost ten pounds, and kept my IBS under control at the same time. I have found the point system to be educational for me, helping me to make the best choices that I can within the limitations of my IBS diet. I wouldn't want to go to the meetings, because much of their general eating advice would be a bad idea for me, but the online system allows me to track what I'm eating, along with a place for notes (which I use to note my IBS symptoms). This has allowed me to get a better grasp of the cause-and-effect of the different foods I eat and the different treatments I use for my IBS.
I know that as I lose weight, the food "points" I'm allowed will go down, and the program will become more difficult for me to follow. However, the points sytem also helps me figure out how much exercising I need to do to make sure that I can eat how I need to eat.
I hope this helps you!
