pain-free colonoscopy?

My husband was recently diagnosed with IBS (D), and he's starting to get better as he's been following Heather's diet.

Last weekend, I started him on the diet after getting "Eating for IBS" (he loves the pumpkin apple spice cake!). This past weekend, I started reading "The First Year," which raised a question. He had his first colonoscopy a couple months ago with NO Versed and only the minimum dose of Fentanyl. He said it wasn't bad at all, and that next time, he'd try it with no drugs. (The doc thought it would be best to have the minimum of Fentanyl since DH has a bit of a twist in his colon.)

Is it really possible for him to have had an essentially pain free colonoscopy and to have IBS? It seems that a colonoscopy would be especially painful for someone with IBS.

TIA, Karen
