Since January 8th I have not been going to the bathroom like normal. My first doctor thought that it could be a "bug" in the gut- he prescribed metroniadazole which tamed it, and brought me back to normal... but upon stopping that treatment my diarrhea/loose stool came back. I went back to him, and he didn't want to prescribe it again.
After a stool test and blood test, everything came back normal and I was still having the same problem. I was referred to a specialist who believed that I had IBS, but couldn't diagnose it until I have a colonoscopy. He told me to sit tight... did a second stool test and everything was normal. We then tried a second round of metroniadazole which seemed to help but not get rid of the symptoms.
I couldn't deal, so I went to a great doctor at UCLA med center who is now recommending a colonoscopy to rule out other things.
I noticed that my symptoms tend to react to what I eat- if I eat a salad, have an alcolholic drink, or things like this, my symptoms get worse. If I eat safe foods, I can somewhat control the symptoms- but my stool is still broken up, thin, or just not right looking.
I have had no other serious symptoms, no serious pain aside from the discomfort of using the bathroom 2-3 times a day.
I need an opinion from some people who have experience personally dealing with this. Your help is greatly appreciated.
