Two questions.
1) How come you need a PT? I have been trying to lose weight and make exercise and better eating part of my regular lifestyle for a long time now, but I have a big problem with motivation. So one of the reasons I chose to do PT is because you make appointments, and you have to show up. Also, the workouts are hard so it makes me want to get in shape when I'm not with my PT faster so they don't hurt so bad. The other reason is because although I do have a general idea of what one should do at the gym, I found myself "wandering" a lot when I was there. I'd start to do one exercise, get bored with that, move to another, do half a set.. Having someone there keeps me accountable and shows me how to do things properly so that when I do go on my own, I am in a routine.
2) How can you find an AT? Well, at my gym I asked about PT and when it was too pricey, they offered the apprentice training (rather than lose all my money, hee hee). At other places, though, I'm not sure... I'd maybe ask around at local gyms/community centres and stuff and see what they have to offer. They might call them something different as well.
