Try a wheat/gluten free diet

I am in my late 40's and had been diagnosed with IBS many years ago. I have had IBS symptoms, starting in my early childhood, and managed my symptoms fairly well by avoiding foods I sorted out over the years. With the help of this invaluable website, which I discovered some time ago, I was able to alleviate my symptoms even further. IBS safe foods, peppermint tea, on the spot altoids, and acacia fiber have helped to calm my digestive tract. I still had unpredicted bad days of indigestion however, mornings always being the worst time to eat. In the past year I bottomed out with my health starting with worsening IBS symptoms and other serious health problems: severe weight loss, long periods of bouts of nausea, menstrual disorders, alopetia, muscle cramping and vomiting. To put it mildly - I was very sick! I put myself under the doctors microscope. Many things were ruled out and nothing new turned up for a diagnosis. One friend suggested trying a wheat/gluten free diet. I was hesitant since I had tried such a diet many years ago. I did however try the diet because of my rapidly declining health, and the urging and help of this friend. After much research I discovered that I probably did not really ever try a wheat/gluten free diet years ago as I had thought. Food labeling did not indicate wheat or gluten years ago. The internet resource did not exist many years ago. Wheat/gluten is in many foods, cosmetic products, medicines, soaps etc. and is often still a hidden ingredient in labeling. It was a tedious process but for me the results were most surprising. My health is back on track. My "baseline" IBS symptoms have yet to reappear. I haven't done careful research of previous postings on this website but I urge IBS sufferers to try a wheat/gluten free diet for a just few days (really do your research for wheat/gluten free foods) and see if you experience a vast improvement in your IBS symptoms. I was tested for celiac disease and the test result was negative. I am certain however, that I am wheat/gluten intolerant based on my vastly improved health and the lack of my "normal" IBS symptoms. I still stick with IBS safe foods which are wheat/gluten free, acacia fiber is still my morning ritual, and peppermint tea is still my "coffee." Hopefully this info will reach out to help someone like me. :)
