Heather, I just want to thank you for posting the article on IBS misdiagnosis in your newsletter today. A year ago I went through some grueling problems with my gut. I suffered the "scope" as well as a myriad of other pokes, prods and embarrassing questions. At the end of it (and after taking unnecessary medicine for heartburn), my doctor gave me a pamphlet on Metamucil and said, "good luck." I decided to take my healthcare into more agressive research and found your website. It was such a treasure to me! Unfortunately, however, none of your suggestions or diets worked. As a matter of fact, my symptoms grew worse. Someone mentioned a condition called, Candida, which I began researching and found that my symptoms matched those of Candida.
I found two allergy doctors who ran extensive tests and confirmed that I did, in fact, have Candida, not IBS. The sad thing is that no one on the Candida side offers the type of website like yours. Although I am working with a doctor, the treatments are expensive, and the support is little to none. I know no one else with the condition, though I know people who have it are out there. Candida, like IBS, is difficult to diagnose and the treatments are usually with diet and probiotics. Most medical doctors will dispute its existence.
Well, I don't want to go on too long, except to say that I really appreciate your work and your constant care and attention to a valid problem. I only wish there were someone else like you doing this for those of us who suffer with Candida.
I still recommend friends to your website and have many people thank me for the recommendation. And I still receive the newsletter and read it from cover to cover. Thanks for all you do.
