Can IBS cause weight loss?       05/02/05 10:34 PM Edit Reply Quote AlyssaKaye Reged: 03/21/05 Posts: 193 Loc: USA Went to the doctor today, and (among other things) she said that it is highly unlikely that IBS would cause weight loss, so she ordered more testing (blood work and small bowel x-ray--does anyone know if that is the same as the one where you swallow the barium??). But, it seems to me that several people have mentioned on here being skinny, or at least having lost weight before diagnosis, or while they were really sick. I mean, it makes sense to me. I don't eat all that much (although I'm still working on it) and if I do eat more, I just poop it right out. Seems like constantly severe D might contribute to weight loss to me...? She just made me a bit nevous with the whole "indication of a more serious condition" bit. I mean, I'm all for ruling things out. I was just surpised how the weight loss seemed to be such a red flag for her. Any thoughts? -------------------- ~~~Pain is inevitable.
