I have noticed that several of you use Immodium as a preventative. I've been a little apprehensive about it for the following reasons. I'd appreciate any input any of you may have. thanx
My problems with ibs-d always occur within the 1st couple of hours of waking. That has always been the time of day that I have my daily bms . The first one is always normal looking (sorry if this is gross  ) but then within about 15 min-1/2hr, the spasms begin and my colon keeps saying I have to go some more. I usually go 3-4x and then take 2 Immodium and it stops it right away. Two problems: 1) If I take the Immodium as a preventative before I even go, I'm afraid I won't even be able to go my 'normal daily bm' because 2) when I do take the Immodium to stop going, I usually do not go the next day and sometimes even 2 days, which is very abnormal for me. Consequently, when I do go again, I have become constipated by this time and have problems all over again. I usually dont' have real bad cramps when I need to go (although there are times that I do); it's just spasms that my colon seems to signal to my brain that I have to go again--and again--and AGAIN. It never goes to watery d, just real soft and full of mucous (again sorry for being so descriptive  ) What do you guys think? Would you recommend trying 1 Immodium when I get up in the am before any bms or should I wait until I have one and then take 1. I keep thinking that if I could retrain my brain/colon to have my normal bm another time of day, I wouldn't even have these am problems. Because on the morning that I don't go at all (due to taking Immodium the day before), I don't have any problems in the morning--feel great! I am taking acacia and watching what I eat. But again, because I have problems with ibs only in the mornings, I can't always pinpoint what food might have caused it, like I would be able to if it bothered me right after I eat it as it does several of you. OK, I'm done
