I think that is a bunch of "patooey" but that is just my opinion. Sounds like he's just on the latest bandwagon.
Here is my advice - workout regularly, get at least 30 mins of aerobic exercise 3x a week, plus get in a good weight training regiment (which could involve machines, free weights, or even isometric or yoga or pilates if strength oriented), which tones your body AND builds your resting metabolism, which means you will continue burning calories even at rest.
Then, as for eating, I'd eat exactly as you have been - IBS careful, etc, but start cutting portion sizes. Whatever you're used to having for dinner, cut it by 1/3 or if you think you've been "overeating" (not saying you have just example here) then cut in 1/2. At first it will be a matter of will power, but eventually you will get full on less. Also, drink tons of water and cut our sugary/high calorie drinks.
That's my advice! Burn more calories than you take in, and you can eat basically any combo of food you want. I may have gone overboard with myself on this whole score, but I do know a thing or two about this particular issue.
Good luck, sure you'll look GREAT for the wedding!
