I was diagnosed with IBS (C&D) over 15 years ago. I managed to do alright, only 1 attact every month or so. About X-mas of 2002, I started having severe pain whenever I ate solid foods. It got worse and worse as the months went on until I was only able to eat applesauce and lean deli meats. By the time I got to another gastro specialist I had lost 40 lbs. He started me on nutritional supplements to stop the weight loss and did all the testing possible within his field. After all the tests were done, and nothing was found, but I was still in constant pain, he actually said there was nothing more he could do for me. So I decided to start all over. I got my records from every doctor I had seen and went to a new GP recommended by Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She actually listened to what I had to say. That was a new experience for me in the first place. She immediately thought I might have endometriosis so she sent me to a gynocologist. The gyno, also female, gave me laproscopic surgery and found tracts of endometriosis but mostly scar tissue which had wrapped itself around my intestines as well as connected my colon to my stomach. Well, the constant, sever pain is gone, but I am still unable to eat much when it comes to solid food. I have been trying Heathers recommedation of what to eat when you cant eat anything but I am still unable to get any sort of digestive flow going. I have even quit smoking which is huge since I have been a smoker for over 25 years. While I dont want to go see one more doctor, if I cant get it under some kind of control myself soon, I dont see any other choice. My new GP has recommended a gastro specialist who specializes in the enzymes your digestive system may be missing. I have been losing this battle for a long time now, any advice would be greatly appreciated cuz if I cant get straightened out soon, I think I will lose my mind or at least start smoking again which I certainly DO NOT want to do.
