I think that's what Shanna was talking about. And SSRIs work by inhibiting to reuptake of serotonin in the brain, thereby rasing serotonin levels in the brain. It isn't just a serotonin shortage in the gut that causes IBS, but that your body doesn't process it properly. Dunno how they worked out the 50%. That is a rather dodgy sounding statistic! I do think it's genetic though - but it'll be years and years before they get round to isolating the gene and then even longer before they can (or are allowed to) modify it.
