Hey birthday girl. I think Laura Sue is right about the immodium. I would also suggest a good safe meal with lots of soluable fiber. If you are going out to eat with your friends first, get something super safe, with a lot of rice or pasta and very little oil or anything else. You should avoid everything on the trigger list, even foods that you can usually tolerate. Your birthday is not the night to tempt fate. When you drink, do not get beer or anything else carbonated. Red wine has alwasy been tough on my tummy, even pre-IBS. I would stay with relatively stafe cocktails like vodka and cranberry juice, a mojito, or a margarita (not frozen -- it would be too cold). Don't do any shots. Don't get anything with orange juice, and don't get pina coladas (cocunut milk). Don't let the mood encourage you to drink more than a couple of drinks. ALSO, I don't know what Rx meds you are on, but most of my IBS meds say not to mix with alcohol. This should not be a problem with the Immodium, but don't take Levsin (Hyoscamine) or Pamine. I don't know about any others. Instead, swallow 2 peppermint altoids with water, like you would swallow a pill, if you find yourself hurting. Also, alternate water between every drink. Do you take a soluable fiber supplement? If you do, make sure you don't miss your dose that day. If you do not usually take one, you should take 2 to 4 Fibercon pills about a half hour before you go out, and keep Equalactin (chewable fiber supplements, available at Walmart pharmacy and at drugstore.com) with you all night. Good luck and happy birthday from another Amanda. <3 Panda
