Good girl! What you've done ain't easy! I know -- I had a 42-year addiction, starting in 1961, and I gave it up for good 5 months ago.
I'll be honest with ya -- I still miss it. I thought giving up chocolate would be the worst thing of all, but I was wrong; it's definitely the coffee. I have problems walking by the coffee aisle in the grocery store or walking down the stairs here in our little condo early in the mornings (someone brews it every morning, and the smell settles in the stairway). My hairdresser knows not to brew it while I'm in her shop (isn't she considerate!). I've tried substitutes, such as Teeccino, but ew ick. (However, Miss Pepper, Heather and Will love the stuff.) I'm going to be trying SoyFree, another substitute, as soon as it arrives, probably next week.
So far, the best thing I've had that tastes like the real thing is my beloved Soy Dream Mocha Fudge Non-Dairy Dessert (from the health food store). It's got coffee in it, but not much; it's half-way down the ingredient list. And it doesn't bother me at all. I put a scoop in one of my old coffee mugs and let it melt a little, then I mix the fudgy part into the "ice cream" part 'till it's real soupy, then pretend I have myself a cup of iced frappuccino. It's HEAVENLY!
One more little hint: don't give in to the temptation, whatever you do. Not even one little sip. My favorite coffee is at ihop; that's gotta be the best EVER. When we go there for breakfast, it's hard. One time I gave in to the temptation and had a sip of hubby's joe. OMG! OMG! Wow, was that a big mistake! I kept tasting that incredible cuppa gold for WEEKS afterwards, craving it something terrible. Whatever you do, don't be as stupid as me.
Good luck, Bev.
