It says it is used to relieve pain and swelling(inflammation) by blocking the enzyme in your body that makes prostagladins. It is sometimes prescribed to people with bad menstrual cramps. Decreasing prostagladins helps to reduce pain and swelling. So it sounds like it is mainly to relieve pain caused by inflammation. I know that it works for my husbands pain.
