i wish everyone could be as tummy-stable as i am! in fact, i'm quite resentful because i'm on a medication that's making me constipated and it's really ruining my streak, here!

i do take acacia. in fact, it wasn't 'til after i started the acacia that i really stabilized. (though i totally admit to lots of cheating and not regularly taking soluble fiber before that! )

i started the acacia at 1 tsp a day and worked up very slowly (over several weeks between each addition) to 1 1/2 tsps a day. i'm aiming for the full 3 Tbsp a day!

Have you totally eliminated dairy, fat, and meat from your diet?

well, ya know not all meat has to be eliminated, right? maybe that was just a typo and you meant to say "red meat?" because i have given up red meat. in fact, it was easy because for quite a while now just seeing red meat on tv would make me feel a little queasy! i do love to eat chicken, fish (salmon!) and sometimes turkey. i also eat a lot of soy to get some protein. i do try to phase in some black beans, too, "for the protein" (actually, if you want the honest truth- it's because i think life without black beans is not worth living! ).

i have eliminated dairy. that was hard! i love cheese and icecream. i was never a cereal eater and i hate drinking milk, so there were no hardships there. though, i've actually gotten into eating cereal now with Silk soy milk! yum. i'm still trying to track down decent soy or rice cheeses. the ones i've found are good, but not cheese-ish enough for me (if you've tried them, you know what i mean by that!). i do think the shredded cheeses are pretty good and are nice on a pizza or sprinkled on pasta or a baked potato.

i haven't eliminated fat, because some fat in the diet is really necessary for your health. i get fat from really tasty yummy things like avocado and salmon (not together!). does your hubby like guacamole!? it's terribly easy to make and feels quite decadent to eat! i do check labels for low fat-ness. (what a pain!)

hopefully this may make your husband feel better: (shh, don't tell anyone i said this! it's just between me and you!) i have found that since i got stable i can cheat more frequently than i had dreamed possible! (shh! i told you--- scandalous, right!?) i still follow the rules, mind you, but from time to time when i'm quite stable, i can have almost whatver i want! just a bit, and with soluble fiber, but still.... it's pretty sweet to cheat! my favorite cheat is quite a cheat. it's at an Afghani restaurant and i get the pumpkin apetizer (soluble fiber) that has yogurt pooled over it (not soluble fiber!). then i have a kabob and roasted veggies over spicy rice (soluble fiber + insoluble fiber + chicken). desert, though, desert is great! vanilla icecream with dates and figs. MMMmmmmm... hungry now!

it can work for your husband. i swear! but he'll have to really commit to it (ugh, i know! i didn't want to either!) until he's really stable and been there for a while. then maybe, just maybe, he can try to "safely cheat" on some old favorites from BI (before IBS).

best of luck!
