Hi there. As to your question re: calcium and magnesium, I've found that it's really helped with my D. I take a liquid supplement from Floradix [more info here]. It has calcium and magnesium together (pretty important as they require each other for absorption) as well as vitamin D and zinc (which I find is a bit hard to get enough of without red meat). The fact that its vegetable and fruit derived and not pure minerals means that it's a food supplement and not another pill - which also means you are a lot less likely to get nasty things like kidney stones from it.

As to how much you need a day, on average people need about 1000mg of calcium and around 300mg of magnesium, though it varies per person a little. The supplement I take has 155 of calcium and 186 of magnesium per dose, about 2 tbsp. Really, you can't be taking *too* much more than that a day because your body can't really absorb it properly.
