Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards | Anti-Depressants and Contraceptive Pill

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone can relate to my situation at the moment or offer any advice.

Firstly, this website has been my salvation, it is so nice to finally talk to people who really understand how debilitating this condition can be.

I was doing so well for about 4 months (virtually symptom free). Then I had a major relapse and have been struggling since.

I changed two things just before the relapse.
1. I came off the anti-dep my doctor had me on. (fluoxetine - prescribed for IBS-C)
2. I came off the contraceptive pill since I would like to have a second child.

Things went rapidly downhill after that. I don't know if it was stopping the AD or the CP or just coincidence.

I haven't had a period since stopping the pill (about 4 months) so this hormonal upset could also be aggravating the IBS.

I don't know what to do as I can't take either of these drugs if I want to fall pregnant.

Can anyone relate or offer any advice?

I would really appreciate any replies.
