I doubt it. In Heather's books, it says that IBS will not lead to other things, or get worse. But I could be wrong. If you have the books, there are sections for kids with IBS. And there's stuff on this website just for kids. At first, I couldn't eat ANY dairy! Then, i was able to eat a tiny bit of cheese or something like that, and I'd be fine. Now tho, I can't eat any dairy at all. My IBS is sometimes a rollercoaster! Maybe you and your daughter can eat a little bit of dairy for awhile, and then maybe not at all. But hopefully Heather will come on and answer your questions, and some other posters. That is a very good question, btw! Best of luck to you and your little girl!
