Yep, it has to do with the dairy. Personally, I use Fleischmann's unsalted margarine, which is lactose free, and it's never bothered me. But I think most people go with the soy, because the margarine still contains a small amount of whey.

UPDATE: I just checked my margarine, and it no longer says it contains whey! It now says "milk free" on the back instead of just lactose free! Does anyone know it that means it would be safe for everyone now?? The ingredients look safe to me!
