Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards | Re: constipation is the biggest problem

I am a long time sufferer of constipation. Several years ago after trying EVERYTHING for C and I went to DR and told him he had to do something I couldn't go on living the way I was. So he gave me miralax. It worked for me. Now I'm trying to stop it because I want to get pregnant and am having a horrible time! Point of this is that it is available but I suggest it as a last resort!

It is a prescription, my insurance pays for it so I don't know what it cost. It took 3-5 days to start working for me. It did cause some extra bloating and a little cramping in the begginging. That went away after about 3-4 weeks. It does sometimes give me D. So it has been a pretty good answer to my C problems for several years now. I have become dependant on it though, and although I have been able to reduce the amount I take I haven't been able to stop it. If you are desperate, ask your DR about it but keep it in mind that it will probably be a forever thing. Feel free to ask any questions about it and I will do my best to answer.

As a now and then solution, I do reccomend the glycerin suppositories. Hope things start moving soon!
