I'm so glad you found the root of you son's problem and he is feeling better. Being lactose intolerant is hard I'm sure. Glad he likes the alternatives. Does he like chocolate? Maybe the chocolate rice/almond or soy beverages would go over better on his cereal?-----it beats OJ any day!!! The little 8 oz. aseptic pkgs of milk alternatives are handy take-alongs and the chocolate flavored ones are sure good.
When you do your research look at the XO factor in dairy. It's information that's been out a good ten years or more but little known to most people. A Google search will turn up all you need.
Educate me here, if you will, since I'm not up on being lactose intolerant. Does WHEY PROTEIN fall in the group of dairy no-no's for lactose intolerant folks? I know it's a trigger for many IBS sufferers, but that's about it.
