Menstruation and IBS - I'm miserable!!

I have suffered from IBS in various stages of severity for almost 20 years. I was in sort of a "remission" for several years and then suddenly, 7 years ago, the IBS came back with a vengeance. For the most part I have been able to control the symptoms with watching for trigger foods very carefully, exercise, yoga, acacia fiber supplementation, and other various herbal remedies. There is, however, a situation that I cannot control that causes my IBS to flare terribly and that is my monthly cycle. The symptoms usually occur 1-2 days before I start my cycle and then through the first 2-3 days of my cycle. The symptoms vary in degree of severity from just feeling "blah" to very, very severe cramping and loose stools. It is very frustrating to have this happen EVERY month! I have a question that I hope someone will be able to help answer. I know that the hormones that are released to trigger menstrual flow is what is causing the IBS to flare. Is there ANYTHING I can do to prevent or reduce these symptoms? Periods are bad enough, but with the added IBS, I'm just miserable!
