Hello,
Following the advice on this website + in Heather's books, over the past 4-5 months I have managed to get to a point where my IBS is so much more manageable. There is something in particular that still causes me problems- I have realised that for 2-3 days before my period starts each month, I am constipated and the noises in my gut (which plagued me every day before I started following Heather's advice, but which in general now only happen when I know I've eaten something I shouldn't) start up. I feel heavy and bloated during these few days. Once my period starts, the horrible period pain cramps are normally accompanied by diarrhea on the first day or two (even pre-IBS that was the case), which in some ways is a relief! Does anyone have any advice as to what to change during the days to alleviate the symptoms of constipation + bloating + gas/noises?
For info: My normal diet these days is rice cereal with soy milk + peppermint tea for breakfast, white bread with tuna or chicken and salad + banana at lunch, then rice/pasta/potatoes with fish/chicken and veg for evening meal. Also: I take 10g of Polykarara (a soluble fibre supplement) before each of those meals. I am no longer taking any other tablets (previously peppermint oil capsules, and Debridat/Mebeverine-type antispasmodic). Also, I have always suffered with painful periods, including nausea + dizziness + diarrhea (even pre-IBS) on the first 1-2 days.
Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated...
