I had posted a long message in "RE:Green Thickies" before I was advised to post here for more advice. So I'll start over again. Basically, I've had (I believe) IBS for 5 years, self-diagnosed, because I don't have insurance. I had a colonscopy about 3 years ago and the doctor saw nothing (I got the exam because of the symptoms being so extreme). I had never had really problems eating anything before that. I was going through a time of severe stress and I believe menopause added to it. I was asking about juicers versus VitaMix (which leaves the pulp in but smashes the veggies/fruits on a cellular level...making it easier to digest). However, it would still leave the bulk even though finely ground in the drink. And it also would grind the fine seeds up in strawberries for example until smooth. (It's an incredible machine...have seen it in action and tasted the results, but not sure about buying it). Because when symptoms flare up they're so bad can't think about any kind of insoluble fiber no matter how finely ground, which is so depressing. So one person already answered saying that only a juicer helps them as the bulk still flares up symptoms. I can't eat nuts either and/or peanut butter or almond butter which I miss terribly. Will I ever be able to eat nuts again? Right now I mostly cook vegetables in soups (till they're mushy) and am just hoping the broth has lots of nutrients in it. The only raw veggies or fruits I can eat without repercussions are bananas and avocados. I can't even do peeled apples presently. I buy organic as well. And have cut out lots of fats as well over the past few years. I am not overweight. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful. I have used this site to help me get through by the tips suggested. I drink ginger tea and I like garlic powder...are these irritants? I had read that ginger is excellent for digestion and as well I like turmeric which is a highly anti-inflammatory herb. A health care individual told me that even herbal non-caffienated teas can be an irritant (depending on the herb). Naturally, some herbs are excellent for the stomach and colon mucosal linings. Anyone with suggestions or encouragement will be highly appreciated!!! Hoping I will be able to eat nuts and veggies/fruits some day again in the future. Thanks! Janet - Health22
