Hormones and even changes in the immune system from activation to fight disease are well known to modulate IBS symptoms. Check some of the articles in the Research Library under Gender/Hormones. It has a number of interesting articles on the topic.

Seashell you have been using Heather's EFI diet for a few years. Have you looked at trying the FODMAP diet which has been clinically tested on large numbers of IBS suffers with good results? It can be integrated with the EFI diet.

From 60-80% improvement in symptoms have been reported in these trials. I follow it in conjunction with Heather's diet especially the low insoluble fiber and high soluble fiber approach with reasonably good results. You can read more about it in the first three links in my signature. Also, you may also be able to find a registered dietitian in your area who is trained in this approach for managing functional bowel disorders such as IBS. Heather posted an item in the research library that originate from the Bloomberg Business Week titled Taming Stomachs With Fodmap Diet Spurs $8 Billion Market. It tells a fascinating story about the history of the evolution of the FODMAP diet.

Good luck
