Welcome to the board,

If the doctor says 10 grams 2x a day then ignore the instructions on the label. You can buy psyllium in generic form in a large bottle. Also, the packages tend to have other ingredients like dyes, flavors and sugar. Each Metamucil package contains 9 grams of sugar. The Metamucil Original doesn't contain any sugar or dyes. One teaspoon contains 5.4 grams of psyllium.
