I have suffered from constipation most of my life, and it's definitely worse when I'm out of my regular routine. For me, I seem to have my best BMs if I wake up, have a hot drink (usually peppermint tea) and a light breakfast about 45 minutes later, and then relax and continue sipping my tea until things start to move. If I have to get up and go right away in the mornings it almost always brings on a bout of constipation! When I was student teaching I had a different routine, and always seemed to go while the students were at specials, because that's what my body was used to. Even though you're traveling, maybe there's a way you can establish a portable routine, such as getting your body used to when you'll be eating in the morning? Just a thought. I also think hormones have a lot to do with it, too, and that's something we can't really control.
One other thing, you said your constipation usually passes within a few days. I read somewhere that you're not really constipated if you have a good BM at least once every 3 days. Granted, it's different for everyone, but I just thought I'd point out that it's not necessary to go every day. Good luck getting things under control!
