Macrogol contains propylene glycol which is an osmotic laxative. In North America this is generally considered a laxative not a stool softener. Generally speaking stool softeners contain emulsifying, wetting, and dispersing agents such as found in Docusate .

Osmotic laxatives are harsher than stool softeners. Could it be the laxative that is causing problems not the non-active ingredients?
