Hi everyone, this is only my second post on this website, but I have a few questions I've been wondering about. First of all, to explain, I live in Iceland and alternatives can be hard to find. For example, there is no soy (or other dairy free) alternative for cheese to be found anywhere in the country! So what can I do for cheese?? I used to be a grilled cheese fanatic, but since I can't have it anymore I'm so hungry for cheese!! Also I'm wondering what you guys do for all kinds of sauces, e.g. BBQ sauce? The most common BBQ sauce here is Hunt's, but that has HFCS. And Worchestershire sauce? MSG AND HFCS!! I've been using soy sauce, is that OK? It has no HFCS nor MSG, but that also doesn't go with everything. Sometimes I really struggle to eat according to the IBS diet, but I can always whip up some pasta or rice and use basic veggies with it, but then I need some kind of sauce. Third question was mayo. I found a recipe for tofu mayo, I didn't like it, but then again, maybe I didn't use the right kind of tofu. I'm not sure I'm using "Silken" tofu, it doesn't say on the package, just "Tofu". Speciality stores are hard to come by and for instance I have to drive a fairly long way to an Asian market, which is not always doable in the middle of the week when I have work, and have to drive the kids to after school activities and so on... Would love some pointers.
