Do you often feel lethargic, depressed, listless?

Well I do or did, and I do understand that sometimes these symptoms are part of IBS, esp if there is a lot of pain/stress/frustration. For me, eating the EFI+FODMAP approach way has got rid of all my symptoms barring bloating but I still had these issues above and the inability to concentrate, so much so that I was incapable of intellectual work, felt that everything just washed over me/couldn't focus and sometimes even felt that I was on the verge of physical collapse. This was a part of my life even before IBS, but now I think the solution is there.

It is all to do with the glycemic index:

http://www.glycemicindex.com/
http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/72818.php

but we of course with IBS have the added trouble of not being able to eat fibre freely and we have to be really careful with fat. But it's doable and for me it has helped so much with blood sugar levels and those general symptoms I listed above!

Here is a list of the glycemic load of the carbs I eat if anyone was interested, I now use maths to determine portions sizes:

------
below 10 is low GL,
10-20 is medium
more than 20 is high:
(I am now aiming for low/lower part of medium)
(portion sizes listed above are always for one cup if not otherwise stated)

carbs:
28-(baked potato, one medium/17- mashed potato from one medium)
23(basmati white rice, 30 - sticky rice
11/18(for oatmeal, latter instant oatmeal)
10(1slice white bread)
29(tesco pasta, fuselli boiled 10 mins),
23 - cous cous
21(30g)-gluten free corn flakes -
13 quinoa -
10 (1 tablespoon)-maple syrup
17(25g rice cake, 1 rice cake-10g)-puffed rice cake

fruits:
11(one medium)-bananas - no brown spots, yellow, green
12(/250ml)-orange juice

17(250ml)-rice milk (unfortunately )

the rest like veggies are almost all great, under 5 usually, and no IBS person would binge on them anyhow for it to make up a lot of the glycemic load
------------
if you eat things together they add up of course. Some people may not be that prone to blood sugar level differences and such, I know I am, always have been.

this has helped me a lot and with IBS, if more challenging, it can still be done.
Just wanted to share esp if some people had the same problems, worth a try.
