I converted to a semi-paleo diet about six months ago, allowing myself to cheat on occasion.

Of course, we'd like to avoid nuts & a lot of the insoluble fibers found in fruits or vegetables, but there are ways around that. If you stick to lean protein (chicken, fish, etc), and cook with the proper oils (EVOO & Coconut oil), you can make any number of healthy IBS friendly & paleo dishes. Cooking your vegetables in this manner helps break down a lot of the insoluble fiber & enzymes that can cause issues with IBS as well. Start out by sauteeing green peppers, cucumbers, carrots, & squash and see how that treats you. Then you can move on to more difficult veggies like spinach & broccoli.

For fruits, try to avoid those with a hard skin, but all should be good. Lean more towards vegetables than fruits, though.

If you can handle nuts, avoid peanuts & stick to almonds or cashews.

Of course, no dairy (cheese, milk, etc), but if you are like me you won't complain about that.

The hard part is giving up sugars (breads, pasta, rice, etc.) because not only are they delicious, they're the IBS staples. I've replaced all of my bread intake with vegetables and/or fruits. It was hard - I had to like detox for a couple of weeks, but it was worth it. I noticed a real positive change in my energy level, and my belly was in FANTASTIC shape.

If you are willing to take the risk, the paleo route is worth it. A great website to visit is robbwolf.com for any questions. You can also contact me if you're interested in my ibs/paleo surival lifestyle.
