Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards

Thank you so much for replying to me, makes me feel so much better to think I'm not unique in this problem!
My GP is really lovely but its not his field as such so I can only depend on him for referrals, unfortunately the Gastro Dr has been about as helpful as a can of baked beans!

I've been living on basically bread, rice and oatmeal for the past week and a half to try and keep everything calmed down but during one of these flares it makes no difference, even normally I mainly stick to these 3 foods with the addition of chicken, carrots and potatoes. I'm currently on a maximum dose of anti spasmodics and also take a daily probiotic and mutivitamin with probiotic in it too.

The worst thing is the anxiety that this weird tummy thing causes, as I say I feel now like I'm on red alert waiting for the next bout of it which of course doesnt help the IBS. Its just so frustrating! I'm seriously considering going back to my GP and asking for a second opinion as the gastro Dr's offering of 'Maybe its recatl cramps' doesnt fill me with confidence.

I just feel so sad, I'm starting a new job next week which is an hours travel from my home each way, I'm in a fairly new relationship and have so much I should be looking forward to yet everything is clouded by my tummy problems. I dont know about anyone else but sometimes I think wouldnt life be a lot easier if we didnt have to eat or have bowels, I rarely see the pleasure in eating these days! x
