Hi, I can tell you what I saw w/my daughter. The only SF supplement we tried was acacia. We started w/an organic one that I could get locally and then switched to Heather's Tummy Fiber (when it arrived). Heather's was easier for her to take than the locally available one, so we stuck w/it. It seemed like it took AGES to get anywhere with it, because we had to increase in the tiniest amounts, as you say. (If she increased too much she had the gas thing and at that point any gas at all was causing debilitating cramping and even more d. Embarrassment wasn't even an issue for her then because she was too sick to go anywhere, any way.) In reality, I think it probably took around 5 weeks of EFI (actually eating little more than btc foods) while increasing the acacia supplement and finally the d stopped. It really stopped completely. One thing she had going for her was her small body size (she was only 12), so she actually stabilized at 4tsp per day - however, as I say, it took us so long to work up to that!
hth,
kem (daughter w/ibs-d dx)
