Sorry for the delay in responding, the thread got a little buried.
I am satisfied by the responses to my questions and so am not still concerned about my diagnosis. I have had plenty of time separated blood and stool tests to negate IBD or something more serious. My white blood cell count (or whatever) is normal. It also seems like microscopic inflammaion is common with many IBS sufferers and while it's definitely weird and uncomfortable that I have random temperature swings, it hasn't harmed me more than keeping me up an hour or so when trying to sleep until I cool down.
I fit this last post of yours to a T. I had an infection when this all began and I was also in a period of stress at that time. It does not, however, appear that stress level changes since the initial period have any effect on how I feel. I can have a stressful day at work and feel fine, or I can have an incredibly laid back weekend day and feel flush/feverish. It's more prevalent in the evenings and at night. I do not feel pain along with it, though my tricyclic could be helping with that. It's just a hot head feeling and very slight lack of ability to fully concentrate, I must stress very slight.
One thing I noticed recently that was wierd: My right ear was beet read and warm to the touch, my forehead was red and warm to the touch, and my left ear was normal looking and cold to the touch. Not sure what the heck to think about that - I was indoors so it wasn't the effect of sun or anything, also it was night.
