Magnesium glycinate is the best for constipation...try 500 mg once a day. If you want to take a calcium supplement as well, calcium citrate is better for constipation than calcium carbonate, and will be balanced out by the magnesium you're already taking. Take 1000 mg/day split into two 500 mg doses.
Don't take vitamin C to trigger a BM. It will probably work a little TOO well and leave you running to the bathroom all day--not fun. Ditto using caffeine as a laxative. I've been there. The diet is better.
