Tofranil/Nortriptyline Mucus Side Effect

My IBS-D was diagnosed about 6 years ago.

A year and a half ago I finally got a grip on what I could and couldn't eat thanks to heather's book. Changing my diet helped significantly, but I still got sick and D regularly.

So, I sought help from low dose antidepressants and wound up taking Tofranil for 3 months. It was mostly fantastic, almost eliminating D and helping 75% of my symptoms. However, while the D was gone, I did start experiencing a side effect/new IBS symptom - mucus.

I now pass mucus before or after a solid movement, and what's even worse, I pass mucus unexpectedly with gas sometimes and find myself having to rush to a bathroom.

I recently switched to nortriptyline from the tofranil, but the mucus is still happening so far (only a week).

I'm wondering if anyone else deals with mucus, and how you deal with it/if there's a way to reduce mucus occurrence.

And, I'm also wondering if anyone else has experienced mucus related to taking tofranil or nortriptyline.

Since I wasn't experiencing mucus like this before, I am trying to figure out if it's a side effect, or just a new development in my IBS.

Thanks you.
