First off,the doctor didn't find anything abnormal in the colonoscopy. My esophagus and throat are inflamed, so I may have reflux. Tests are being done for celiac and a few other things, which will also confirm if I have reflux, so I'll update this post if I don't have IBS.
The rest of this is a description of the process. If you don't want to read it, I realize its long.
Now about the whole process
Spoiler: today was my most painful day for years
So I had to drink 20 ounces (one at night, one in morning) of 'lemon flavored' magnesium citrate. Years ago I got a catscan when I was sick. I'm not sure what was worse; drinking catscan fluid and vomiting or drinking magnesium citrate and feeling like vomiting.
The actual cleansing wasn't as bad as drinking a laxative. Just a lot of diarrhea, and thankfully no pain or cramps.
Then I went to the hospital and got ready for the procedure. There was apparently an emergency situation that backed up the doctor, so I ended up waiting around an hour. Unfortunately, the laxative was still working its magic while I was waiting, so I had diarrhea two more times.
Going under was pretty cool. The anesthesiologist said that it would take 30-60 seconds for me to fall asleep. After around 5 seconds, I started (really suddenly) to feel woozy, and my vision got distorted. I tried to comment on how quickly I felt dizzy, but before words could come out of my mouth, I was knocked out.
Waking up might have been more interesting if I didn't have terrible gas pains. When I woke up, my mind was 75% there, but my body was 5%. Since they pumped gas into my colon during the colonoscopy, I felt exactly like I was having an IBS attack. I tried to get up to walk to the bathroom, but couldn't sit up for a minute or two. I remained 'under the influence' to some extent for around 20 minutes.
But as the spoiler suggests, from the gas that got pumped into me, I got bad gas cramps. Usually, when I have an IBS attack, I get pains like that, but then use the toilet and all is well. My gas pains lasted for at least an hour, when I was either lying down or doubled over miserable.
My mom suggested I get up and walk around and showed me some yoga moves that could help me. It really helped. I just wish I knew that moving around would be the fix earlier, so I wouldn't have such a bad time.
So, overall, not the best experience. But I will (hopefully) not have to do it against until I'm middle aged and possibly bald.
By the way, if someone wants to explain reflux to me, that would be nice. I haven't determined if I actually have it yet, and know virtually nothing about it.
