This is how I make it:
as much garlic as you can handle (I use 2-3 large cloves)
put into food processor first and chop up
add 2 cans mostly drained garbanzo beans
2T tahini paste
1 lemon's juice (or a lime is fine too)
about 1t or more kosher salt
possibly 1t or more olive oil if you will be serving it on bread otherwise leave oil out
process until smooth.

Additions:
parsley (added with garlic to chop it)
paprika good teaspoon or two
cumin good teaspoon or two
roasted red peppers
hot pepper flakes

alot of time I add all the extra things on the list to my hummus, if I have roasted peppers, otherwise I just add cumin, paprika and hot pepper to it.
