The EFI diet suggests removing all dairy products from the diet. There is relatively little clinical evidence to show that anything other than lactose in dairy is a problem for IBSers. However, in 2007 the the British Society of Gastroenterology published a set of guidelines for managing IBS. In the guidelines they say that when a wide range of foods are eliminated from the diet of IBS suffers and then systematically re-introduced the most common intolerances were to dairy and wheat. In contrast, the American College of Gastroenterology task force published guidelines on managing IBS in January of this year and it did not mention that either wheat or dairy can be a problem for IBSers.

It quite possible to have IBS and not be sensitive to dairy. However, the EFI diet takes the approach that since dairy can be a problem for some it recommends that it be removed from your diet. If you want to know for sure if yogurt is a problem for you will have to do some experimenting.

Did you check the ingredients in the vanilla yogurt? Believe it or not some of vanilla, plain and fruit yogurts contain HFCS
