I wanted to share that until 3 weeks ago, I was one of the group of us that was afraid to take the fiber supplements. I have had IBS D since I was 10 yr old and am now in my late 40's. I follow Heather's diet, use peppermint tea a lot, the peppermint caps, etc., but I was always fearful of the fiber since I am D. I go in and out of stable depending on stress and what I eat, but am stable more than not. But about a month ago we had some very stressful stuff going on and I was having stomach attacks, painful ones, every day almost. I lost weight, which I don't need to do, and was having D several times a day. I got tired of it and read Heather's page on this website about fiber and decided to try it again. I had Citrucel tablets on hand and since it says no gas, I started using them. I started with 3 a day and just that many started to help. I worked up to 5 and that seems to be enough for me.
I have been doing so much better since. The bloating and gas is minimal now, I haven't had another stomach attack, and I am regular every day now. I'm definitely sold on the fiber supplements and plan on using them regularly from now on. So I just wanted to encourage those of you, especially with D, that have been scared to try it! It really does help a lot. Just start small and work your way up. I take it 3 times a day, which each meal, to spread it out so I'm not loading up on it all at once.
