Might need some 'fine tuning' for the diet.

Hi everyone. Fellow IBS sufferer. So glad to have found this place.

I suffered from this 'thing' years ago. I would have a flare about once every two months and it was usually associated with stress. Its the cycle of the 'runs' for a few days..nothing and then constipation. For some reason the flares stopped for years and they have just recently started again. There is stress. We are having to deal with putting my dad in a nursing home and my son wants to join the Marines! I think I also overdosed on the chocolate which can be a trigger food and I did eat some sugar free syrup with sorbitol. I also have fibro. I think it all just combined together in to a perfect storm!

Last week I went to the doctor and was prescribed Hyomax(generic for Hyoscyamine sulfate) and that helped but I''m just taking that 'as needed'. I had no knowledge of Heather's diet but while just experimenting on my own by some quirk I got about half of it right. I believe that I just started adding the ISF back too quickly.

So I started over with Heather's diet Sunday and followed it as closely as I could and it HAS helped. The cramps are gone and I'm not going every other hour...just once in the morning. There is not a lot of gas or bloating. However the morning episode is still watery...so I'm looking for a bit of 'fine tuning' if that's possible.

I have been taking two Citrucel tablets before every meal (I took them last week as well under the direction of the doctor) I have eaten white rice, plain pasta, sour dough bread...flour tortillas, sweet potatoes, applesauce and polenta. Once again the cramps are pretty much gone and I'm only going once a day.. not every other hour. I'm also drinking the pepermint tea. I'm wondering if perhaps I might not be drinking TOO much water? I know Heather says to drink a lot but could that be a variable that differs from person to person just like the trigger foods? I think I drank like 100 oz yesterday..and that includes all the tea I drank. Would it hurt to cut back on that? I'm also a bit afraid of the constipation that usually follows so I think that might add to my drinking too much as well. Should I cut back on the Citrucel?

Today I'm substituting imodium for the hyomax just to see what happens.

So what is the average length of time to stay on this? Is it when your BM is finally 'normal'? Or am I just being impatient?

And I have to say that the diet IS helping a great deal. I just want to know if there is anything I should change of if I continue on this way for a few days?

Thanks
