Welcome to the boards. I had totally out of control D before I found this website. I had extensive medical tests done to assure that I had no serious problems and you need to do the same. This website has a lot of information regarding breaking the cycle of IBS. You need to read that information and then start on the diet. Acacia (tummy fiber) is not going to help much unless you also follow the diet. I have found that for breakfast I eat cream of rice and drink hot herbal tea (absolutely no caffeine) with the tummy fiber dissolved in it. I have a snack midmorning of 4 or 5 organic vanilla wafers or graham sticks with a few strawberries or blueberries. Sometimes I have a glass of rice milk with that. For lunch I have some type of baked or grilled chicken or fish, rice or potatoes and a couple of tablespoons of grean beans. Afternoon snack is usually a repeat of the morning although I can have peaches to mix it up a bit. Supper/dinner is similar to lunch but since I am home it can be freshly prepared instead of nuked in the micowave. My special summertime dessert is sorbet (check the label to make sure it has no milk products). I like the peach and the strawberry. After dinner I have another cup of herbal tea with the tummy fiber (1 tsp.) dissolved in it. There is no scientific evidence that IBS leads to colon cancer. My GI doc told me to take as much imodium as I needed but I have that down to maybe 1 every two weeks except in times of stress. I understand what you are going through. I have been there, done that and it was embarassing and frightening. Read everything on this website and order "Eating for IBS" or "IBS, The First Year" and read them cover to cover. Remember that you may find that you can tolerate some things that the books say are not recommended AND you may not be able to tolerate things are on the "safe" list but you have to start somewhere. Good luck to you and keep us posted on your progress.
